Investigations of the function and signaling pathways of the endogenous opioid system, with a focus on novel ligands of the kappa opioid receptor. Potential implications of novel kappa opioid agonists, antagonists, and partial agonists include new pharmacotherapeutics for the treatment of cocaine and methamphetamine use disorders, pain states, pruritis, depression, and multiple sclerosis, among others.
