Jacqueline Nenchin, Ph.D.

Jacqueline Endres Nenchin received a BA in Russian and German from SUNY Oswego, an MA in Russian from Vanderbilt University, an MS in TESOL from Molloy College, and a PhD in Linguistics from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Her dissertation is entitled Native and Nonnative English-Speaking Teachers and Their Academic Literacy. She is a published translator of hagiographical and historical works from Russian and German into English and author of numerous articles on her research and teaching. As a professor at Molloy College in the Graduate TESOL Program and the English Department, she teaches graduate courses in linguistics, grammar, and foreign language pedagogy, and undergraduate courses in composition, linguistics, and Russian literature. Her research interests include Systemic Functional Linguistics and its application to pedagogy and translation, the role of language in social life, problems in the translation of literary works, and second language writing. Her literary interests focus on 19th century Russian writers, especially Gogol and Dostoevsky, and on Sturm und Drang and Romanticism. She belongs to and holds offices in several professional organizations, including the North American Systemic Functional Linguistics Association, the Linguistic Association of Canada and the US, TESOL International, NYS TESOL, the Modern Language Association, and Delta Phi Alpha (National German Honorary Society).
