Best Practice Implementation of Skin Cancer Guidelines on the EMR to Educate Patients

Abstract

The  focus  of  this quality improvement (QI) project was  to   educate  nurses about  the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2020)  Skin   Cancer  Sun Safety Tips for Families so they felt more prepared  to  assess and teach their  patients . A goal was  to  establish an electronic medical record ( EMR )  Skin   Cancer  Prevention  Guideline   to  be used by medical-surgical nurses when admitting new  patients . More education was needed  to  assist nurses in distinguishing among different lesions. Because  of   the  project's positive impact  on  medical-surgical nurses,  the   Skin   Cancer  Prevention  Guideline  was incorporated into  the   EMR  for hospital-wide use.
