Developing Nurse Scientists by Engaging in Research during Coursework

Research & Scholarship: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

Nursing is in need of research studies and dissemination of data to improve patient outcomes as well as to advance the practice and discipline of nursing. Today only about 300,000 of the 3 million nurses have their doctoral degree. The IOM Future of Nursing Report of 2010 stressed the need to double the number of doctorally prepared nurses by 2020 to “add to the cadre of nurse faculty and researchers.” The purpose of this abstract is to describe research activities of a research residency course that develops nurse researchers through guided experiences and immersion into research.
