About

Dr. Michael A. Marino is an Associate Professor of Chemistry with the Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science Department at Molloy University.

Research interests

Dr. Marino’s most current research looks at various predictor variables in virtual and hands-on laboratory experiments with students at the undergraduate level. Additionally, he is working with students and multisensory learning to discover how engaging multiple senses can create innovative teaching methods that provide unique opportunities for students to experience pioneering design with accessible components.

Teaching

When designing curricula, Dr. Marino uses pedagogical strategies rooted in the latest, advanced instruction and backed by cutting-edge educational research. He's passionate about creating student-centered learning activities and designing lessons that promote active engagement. Dr. Mrino enjoys reading the latest studies in educational neuroscience and chemistry education to help generate curriculum ideas, which allows him to keep up with the literature within the science education community. Dr. Marino is designing a curriculum incorporating active engagement, interleaving, and feedback. He is also mindful of Cognitive Load Theory when teaching students domain-specific skills – those essential for a specific field – that will help transfer and apply their newfound academic abilities to future scenarios in their fields.
