"Tell the truth shame the devil!"

 “Tell the truth & shame the devil” grandma used to say, as she attempted to extract the truth from my quivering little self, focused upon avoiding the inevitable spanking that would be followed by her loving hugs and reminders that she disciplined me because she loved me. That memory makes me smile now, when I remember thinking then, how I wanted to be loved a little less! I now understand, of course, thanks to a wonderful family, that the way of the Truth-Teller is always the least painful.
